Like every aspects of redecorating, it is important to first set a budget, especially when the redecoration happens in your kitchen. The cabinets generally account for 40 to 50 percent of the total amount of your kitchen remodeling project. For this reason, it is highly important to set a total budget but remember not to let this decision scare you off from continuing with your project.

After setting your budget, you must also know that you will need professional help eventually in order to properly asses your space though it is also advised to measure your kitchen area and ponder on the location of your cabinets in the future. In choosing the cabinets, you have three options: semi-custom, stock and custom. Semi-custom cabinets are standard in size and factory-built, with a number of options for design and storage. The stock cabinets are the least expensive kinds of cabinets. These are normally constructed in standard sizes and shapes and are also available in a variety of styles and woods. Lastly, custom cabinets are considered as high-end because they are either built on-site in any style or in a workstation with designer specifications.

Once you have chosen your desired type of cabinets, the next thing you need to do is to choose your style. A good place to start is the magazine. You can scour for photos and images of several ideas for kitchen renovation and this can help you have the basis for your own project.

Cabinet Finishes

Renovating the kitchen provides you with ample amount of control with the cabinet finish. There are several finishes to choose from and one of them is the special veneer. Veneers are thin sheets of woods sliced and glued to several surfaces of the cabinet. They are normally used to provide a distinctive look or dress the board’s end-grain.

Yet another kind of finish is the wormhole. You can achieve this effect by simulating holes left by worms or larva when boring through wood. Wormhole finishes can be grouped in random patterns or areas.
